Gobi Desert – Romance in the Sand

The Gobi desert is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Mongolia. You will enjoy extremely remote landscapes, a complete lack of cell phone coverage and humans for miles, apart from some nomadic families. The highest part of the Gobi is 1580m and the entire area covers 1.2 million km², a true enduro paradise. A combination of big sand dunes and rocky mountains with old canyons, as well as wide forests consisting of small Saxaul trees makes for fantastic scenery. The Gobi is the fifth biggest desert in the world and is home to a wide range of animals including Bactrian camels, foxes, hares and horses. The first dinosaur fossil eggs were found at the red “Flaming Cliffs” of Bayanzag, where you will probably experience one of the most beautiful sunrises you have ever seen, as you roll on your throttle through the ‘Flaming Cliffs of Gobi’, all in all an unforgettable once in a lifetime experience.

Day 1 – Ulaanbaatar

Welcome to Mongolia! All riders will be picked up from the airport and transferred to a hotel in the city centre. Dinner with the crew and overnight stay at a hotel.

Day 2 – Ulaanbaatar to Dalanzadgad (560km, 1-2hrs)

After a 1hr flight to Dalanzadgad city in the South-Gobi region, we’ll setup our bikes and go for a short test ride. Dinner and overnight stay in a Ger Camp.

Day 3 – Dalanzadgad to Khongor Dunes (240km, 7hrs)

We head to the Khongor dunes today. At Bayandalai we’ll stop to refuel and ride right next to sand hills before having lunch in Valley. Dinner and overnight stay in a Ger Camp.

Day 4 – Khongor Dunes – Playtime! (100km, 5hrs)

Today we meet some nomad families and ride camels in between playing in the sand dunes to improve our sand riding skills. Lunch will be had at the sand dunes. Dinner and overnight stay in a Ger Camp.

Day 5 – Khongor Dunes to Khermen Tsav (Flaming Cliffs)(230km, 5hrs)

We greet the day with a hearty breakfast before heading to the Flaming Cliffs, Mongolias’ very own Grand Canyon. Dinosaur fossils line the sedimentary and fiery sand cliffs of this plain. Who knows, you may find your own piece of ancient history here. Along the way, we’ll stop off to see rock inscriptions. Dinner and overnight stay in a Ger Camp.

Day 6 – Khermen Tsav to Tsagaan Suvraga (White Stupa Cliffs) (250km, 5hrs)
Ulziit village is home to the scarp of White Stupa Cliffs in the Dundgovi province. The cliff is 30 meters high and 100 meters wide. The winds have created this amazing 30m high and 100m wide phenomenon over thousands of years. Dinner and overnight stay in a Ger Camp.

Day 7 – Tsagaan Suvraga to Dalanzadgad (200km, 8hrs)

This day, brings to an end our wonderful Mongolian adventure on 2 wheels. On the way, we’ll pass through Yoliin Am Canyon which forms a gorge that is so deep and narrow, that only two persons can pass in some places. Although there is an abundance of sunshine in this region, the canyon remains shaded which causes the river to be covered by a thick layer of ice for most of the year. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 8 – Dalanzadgad to Ulaanbaatar (560km, 1-2hrs)

You will be transferred to the airport at the appropriate time to catch your flight to Ulaanbaatar, from where you’ll take your international flight home.
